Proper Usage of FSI Product Trademark Names

The proper use of FSI’s trademarks and product names is important. Please be sure to use FSI and its product names properly and with the correct markings and capitalization in ALL documentation, internal and external correspondence, notices/bulletin boards, machine labeling, etc. Remember trademarks are generally adjectives and not nouns. They describe a tool, product, or system.

Written Text

Examples of written text include brochures, manuals, presentations, work instructions, technical reports, bulletins, datasheets, and general correspondence. Complete product naming should always be used as follows:

    • The product name should always be in capital letters.
      Examples: ZETA® System
      MAGELLAN® System
    • The first time the product name is used in the document, you must include the registered mark ® or unregistered mark ™ in superscript. For use in electronic documents, where the document can be downloaded, such as on FSI’s website or PowerPoint presentation, the registration mark needs to be used in all instances.
    • If you don’t have the or on your computer, indicate the Company trademark by using an asterisk and footnote at the bottom of the page.
      Examples: ZETA* System
Footnote at the bottom of the page: * Registered trademark of FSI International, Inc.
    • Listing must include the product name, trademark registration, and the product descriptor.
Examples of complete and proper use:
      ZETA® Spray Cleaning System
      ZETA® System
      MAGELLAN® Immersion Cleaning System
      MAGELLAN® System
Note: It is incorrect to use the trademark as a noun or to use it to describe something other than the equipment.
      Correct: ZETA® System engineer
      Incorrect: ZETA® engineer
Tip: You can set-up Microsoft Word to automatically replace, say, “ZETA” with “ZETA System” by using the Auto Correct Feature under the Tools menu.

Engineering Documentation (Prints)
    • In the “Notes” area of a print, this statement should be included: “XXXXXX (FSI product name) is a registered trademark of FSI International, Inc.”
Example: ANTARES is a registered trademark of FSI International, Inc.
    • The first use of the product name should include the registered mark or ®.
Example: ANTARES® CryoKinetic Cleaning System. (For the first use of the product name, assume the print is read from position A1.)
    • Abbreviated use of a product name is discouraged, but due to field space limitations, abbreviations may be used. If there is no field limitation, use the complete product name. If the abbreviated example is used, define its meaning within the Notes section of the drawing.
